Comedian Dave Chappelle traveled to and roasted San Francisco during a show late last week at the Masonic, skewering the city for its massive and rapid decline at the hands of woke officials.
Predictably, Chappelle’s remarks were attacked in a report in the media, with a SFGate report from Dan Gentile saying that the show was filled with Chappelle’s “barrage of transphobic dog whistles.” The same report claimed that Chappelle’s comedy has taken “a dark turn toward transphobia” after “he identified as TERF (trans-exclusionary radical feminist), declared that gender is an unmalleable fact and insinuated that the struggle for LGBTQ and Black rights are at odds.”
But, above all that, what the SFGate piece emphasized was that “what was crystal clear was [Chappelle’s] disdain for present-day San Francisco.” Giving an example, the SFGate piece then reports:
“What the f—k happened to this place?” he asked.
He told a story about eating at an Indian restaurant in the Tenderloin a few nights earlier, only to have someone defecate in front of the restaurant as he was walking in. San Francisco has become “half ‘Glee,’ half zombie movie,” he said, and he remarked that the whole city is the Tenderloin now. “Y’all [N-words] need a Batman!” he exclaimed.
Predictably, the piece then went back to attacking Chappelle for daring to have a different opinion on the transgender debate than the “current thing” dictates that he have and then calls for him to be “held accountable” for that opinion, saying:
Controversial comedians these days often hide behind the defense that they’re just telling jokes, in the same way that disingenuous political commentators are “just asking questions.” I personally think that extraordinarily influential people like Chappelle should be held accountable for their words, especially if their job is literally just to get on stage and talk. But it was clear from the amount of laughter in the room — and his continual ability to sell out shows in the most LGBTQ+ friendly city in America — that there’s still a large portion of the population who will only ever know him as the guy that did those Rick James impressions. Those fans weren’t disappointed, but everyone else who has been paying attention would have been.
Regardless of how a woke journalist feels about Chappelle’s jokes, he has a point in saying that San Fransisco has gone down the drain recently. For example, Nordstroms just announced it was leaving the city, as we reported on The American Tribune, saying:
Another retailer is being forced to flee our decaying blue cities, as Nordstrom has announced they are closing both of their San Francisco locations as conditions in the city continue to degrade.
With the rise of crime and homelessness, the downtown area is becoming unbearable. The Westfield San Francisco Centre will close in August, while another smaller store across the street will close on the first day of July. It is a sad state of affairs as a once beautiful city continues to decay in real time before our eyes.
Jamie Nordstrom, the company’s chief stores officer, said this according to the Daily Wire: “Decisions like this are never easy, and this one has been especially difficult. But as many of you know, the dynamics of the downtown San Francisco market have changed dramatically over the past several years, impacting customer foot traffic to our stores and our ability to operate successfully.”
