A pizza delivery man in Pennsylvania became an instant hero on Sunday afternoon when he stopped in the midst of a delivery to help stop a carjacking suspect, and appeared to keep the pizza intact and deliverable while doing so.
That man was Tyler Morell. He, delivering Cocco’s Pizza in Delaware County, PA as police from the nearby Brookhaven police department pursued a stolen Kia right past him at about 3:30 in the afternoon. Describing the situation to ABC 6, Morell said, “A car just came up doing like 75, he beached on the side of this person’s lawn and almost took out a couple of cars.”
When that happened, Morell was at the customer’s door with the pizza in hand. Turning around, he saw the Kia, as described above, skid past other cars, nearly crashing into them, before “beaching” on the lawn. Morell, looking curious in the video, walked off the customer’s porch and toward the road.
That put him on a collision course with the driver of the stolen vehicle, who tried to flee on foot after crashing and beaching the stolen vehicle. As the video of the incident shows, the alleged car thief was running from the police, just inches away from Morell, who was at that point near the side of the road.
As the robber ran past, Morell stuck out his foot and tripped the suspect, helping the police officers who were in pursuit catch him.
The Brookhaven Police Department posted the video of the incident to Facebook with the caption “Thank you sir for the assist!!! If you’re interested in a job we are always looking for good people. Coccos Pizza Aston. -You have great employees!”
The video they shared was one from the pizza restaurant, Cocco’s Pizza, that had the caption “Sorry for the innapropriate language, but we thought it was warranted. Special shoutout to our delivery driver Tyler, who assisted the Brookhaven police today, and STILL delivered the food unharmed!!”
Watch it here:
“I started walking towards the road, but I couldn’t do anything with my hands because I’m holding the pizza, so I just stuck my leg out,” Morell said. Continuing, Morell added, “I am so sick of seeing crime go on, especially half a mile down the road. So if they needed a hand or a foot, I was there.”
“He gave us the help we needed, by tripping him it gave us the time to catch up with the gentleman,” Brookhaven Chief of Police Michael Vice said, according to ABC 6.
Fortunately, the woman who ordered the pizza was positive about Morell walking into action with her pie still in hand, saying that it was a “10 out of 10 delivery.”
The suspect in custody, police said, is a juvenile. A second suspect was taken into custody as well, though more details have not yet been released.
