Despite the assurances from the Biden regime that the border is “under control”, things at the border are, in reality, worse than ever. And “worse than ever” isn’t being used as a figure of speech there. The reality along the US-Mexican border is worse than it has ever been from a crossings perspective, with illegal immigrant crossings up tremendously this year over 2021.
In fact, the number of illegal immigrants that broke across the southern border in fiscal year 2022 and were stopped by CBP (border encounters) topped 2.76 million! (The exact number was 2,766,582 encounters), That massive number broke the previous record by a whopping 1 million, according to Customs and Border Protection data. So Biden gets the dubious honor of being the president with the worst border situation ever.
Not all of those are unique individuals; some had been stopped before. According to the CBP data, 19 percent of those encounters had been stopped at the southern border at least one other time. But, still, it’s a massive number of people that are flowing across the border and into America.
And so encounters were up 41 percent in 2022, making history.
And it wasn’t just the year over year situation that was bad. September was worse than August, as the CBP statement reported. In its words:
“The number of unique individuals encountered nationwide in September 2022 was 182,704, a 15 percent increase in the number of unique enforcement encounters over the prior month, driven largely by an increased number of asylum seekers fleeing authoritarian regimes in Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua.”
CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus, speaking about the issue in a statement shared by CBP, said:
“While failing regimes in Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua continued to drive a new wave of migration across the western Hemisphere, the number of Venezuelans arriving at the southern border decreased sharply nearly every day since we launched additional joint actions with Mexico to reduce irregular migration and create a more fair, orderly and safe process for people fleeing the humanitarian and economic crisis in their country.
“Over the past week, the number of Venezuelans attempting to enter the country fell more than 80 percent compared to the week prior to the launch of the joint enforcement actions. While this early data is not reflected in the latest report, it confirms what we’ve said all along: when there is a lawful and orderly way to enter the country, individuals will be less likely to put their lives in the hands of smugglers and try to cross the border unlawfully.
“CBP and DHS will continue to work with our partners in the region to address the root causes of migration, expand legal pathways, facilitate removals, and take thousands of smugglers off the streets. No matter what smugglers say, those who do not have a legal basis to remain in the country will be removed and people should not make the dangerous journey.”
The data is bad news for Team Brandon. Very bad. Despite the feelings of the far left on the matter, a recent NPR poll found that 54 percent of Americans, including 40 percent of Democrats, think it is “completely true” that the border situation is an “invasion.” People don’t like being invaded, so it stands to reason they won’t like the current situation, or the administration under which it is happening.
