Golf legend Fred Couples made Masters history this past weekend when he made the cut at the age of 63, becoming the oldest player ever to do so. It’s hard not to overstate the impressive feat accomplished, as making the cut at Augusta is hard for players in their prime, let alone a sexagenarian.
Couples, the ‘92 Masters champion who earned himself a lifetime exemption at the most heralded of tournaments with the green jacket victory, stated from the onset that he wasn’t there for a few days of walking and hacking. He was there to compete.
And compete he did.
Of course, so-called sports reporters who are bitter about their relegation to the lowest form of journalism (and that’s saying a lot because we have MSNBC and CNN) couldn’t find joy in the remarkable feat. Instead, one woke ESPN loser decided to ignore the historical accomplishment of “Boom Boom” and focused on his weekend attire instead.
Mike Greenberg, an unathletic and skinny loser who has a lot of big opinions about the professional sporting world, sent off a massively ratioed tweet harping on Couples’ choice to wear a sweater in the colder-than-usual Georgia temperatures.
“Fred Couples, sweatshirt? He looks like he was doing some work around the house and someone reminded him of his tee time. How laid back do you have to be to play the final round of the #Masters in attire that would not be allowed at practically any country club?” Greenberg tweeted.

Now, Greenberg was already setting himself up to get hate. Most real sports fans already despise the guy. He has made a career of making outlandish comments simply to be different and controversial. It’s not enough in this day and age to comment accurately and fairly on sports.
So the sporting world let him have it.
“You misspelled How much of a Bad @$$ do you have to be to play the final round of the #Masters in attire that would not be allowed at practically any country club?” one fan wrote.
“Show me where this hurt you?!?” one fan wrote.
“This seems like a good illustration as to why Golic isn’t paired up with you anymore. Your takes have always been a bit snotty, and this one’s no different,” one fan added.
“Yeah…well what did YOU wear when you played in the Masters?” one fan added.
“I hope you’re doing an impression of Colin Cowherd right now. Otherwise this is just a horrific take,” one fan added.
“This is why golf is miserable, if you can’t be comfortable then why even go,” one fan added.
“Who cares. Is this what anyone would talk about, ever? Maybe a Get Up hot take. Try it out,” one fan added.
“Freddie can show up in a t shirt if he wants you ole hack,” one fan wrote.
Unfortunately, images of the sweater – and the accompaying yellow ball that Couples played with – have been difficult to track down on the interwebs. Unless you watched the rounds live, you can use your imagination to picture Couples.
Or not, because at the end of the day none of this matters. Fred Couples competed in the Masters at the age of 63, something this fool Greenberg can only dream about.
