Former president Donald Trump became the first former U.S. president to be arrested on criminal charges after surrendering himself to New York authorities, where he is next expected to submit to fingerprinting and processing. He is expected to enter a plea of not guilty later this afternoon before a judge.
Trump blasted both the venue and judge for his upcoming legal challenges ahead of his surrender, citing the voting habits of the jury pool in the district and “hyper partisan judge” presiding over the case.
“VERY UNFAIR VENUE, WITH SOME AREAS THAT VOTED 1% REPUBLICAN. THIS CASE SHOULD BE MOVED TO NEARBY STATEN ISLAND – WOULD BE A VERY FAIR AND SECURE LOCATION FOR THE TRIAL,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“ADDITIONALLY, THE HIGHLY PARTISAN JUDGE & HIS FAMILY ARE WELL KNOWN TRUMP HATERS. HE WAS AN UNFAIR DISASTER ON A PREVIOUS TRUMP RELATED CASE, WOULDN’T RECUSE, GAVE HORRIBLE JURY INSTRUCTIONS, & IMPOSSIBLE TO DEAL WITH DURING THE WITCH HUNT TRIAL,” he continued. “HIS DAUGHTER WORKED FOR “KAMALA” & NOW THE BIDEN-HARRIS CAMPAIGN. KANGAROO COURT!!!”
For those not aware at this point, the state-level prosecution of Trump focuses on alleged criminal actions said to have occurred during the former president’s 2016 campaign. Trump is said to have made illicit “hush money payments” using campaign funds. NBC described the Soros-funded District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, as centering his investigation around this key element, saying:
The DA’s investigation centered on hush money payments made ahead of the 2016 election to two women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump. He has denied the affairs and any wrongdoing.
Michael Cohen, then Trump’s lawyer, paid adult film star Stormy Daniels $130,000 in the closing days of the campaign. He has said he made the payment at Trump’s direction, and Trump had acknowledged repaying Cohen through payments that were labeled as legal expenses.
Prosecutors also questioned witnesses about allegations that $150,000 in hush money had been previously paid to former Playboy playmate Karen McDougal, two sources familiar with the Manhattan grand jury’s work have said.
Cohen — who testified before the grand jury — acknowledged he was involved in both payments in a guilty plea in Manhattan federal court in 2018.
Ahead of Trump’s arrest, hundreds of Trump supporters appeared in Florida’s Palm Beach International Airport to cheer on the 45th Commander-in-Chief as he departed for New York.
Journalist Laura Loomer tweeted about the supporters, saying, “Patriots have been lined up since 5:30 this morning near Palm Beach international airport to show support for President Trump. There has NEVER been a president in this country who is as beloved as President Donald Trump.”
She also tweeted out a video of the pro-Trump turnout, captioning it by saying, “Trump supporters are out in full force today on Southern Blvd near Mar a Lago and the Palm Beach airport to rally in support of President Donald J Trump as he heads to New York for a WITCH HUNT INDICTMENT!”

The American Tribune previously reported that Donald Trump is expected to “loudly and proudly” declare his plea of not guilty when he presents before a judge later this afternoon. This was according to one of Trump’s defense attorneys, Joe Tacopina, who made the comment while appearing on CNN.
Tacopina added that he wasn’t quite sure what the day would bring. Typically, he noted in the interview, people “walk in…see a judge…plead not guilty…set a schedule…and leave.” But with the entirety of the media circus and protests, he wasn’t quite sure.
“In theory, it should be like hundreds of other arraignments that I have done in that building over the course of my career…you walk in. You see a judge. You plead not guilty. You set a schedule, and you leave. I honestly don’t know how this is going to go, but hopefully as smoothly as possible,” Tacopina said, before adding that he was unsure of how everything would play out because “the rule of law in the United States has died”
“And then we begin the battle to right this wrong because it’s a day that in my opinion, the rule of law in the United States has died,” he said of the corrupt political prosecution of his client, the former president of the United States.
