In an incredibly tragic accident in Henry County, Georgia, a young girl was struck by a car while trying to board a school bus and later died from the injuries she suffered in the accident. The driver who hit her has been arrested over the deadly accident. Henry County is to the southwest of the city of Atlanta, slightly outside the city’s I-285 perimeter.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the incident happened on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. Then, a young girl was boarding the Henry County School bus at the intersection of Jackson Lake Road and a private driveway. As she did so, a Ford Fusion sedan struck her despite the bus, according to the State Patrol, having both its front and rear stop signs displayed and red flashing lights activated.
After the horrific crash, the eight-year-old girl was airlifted to Atlanta’s Children’s Healthcare at Egleston Hospital. Though the hospital desperately attempted to treat her life threatening injuries, she succumbed to them on Saturday, February 3rd.
The driver who killed the eigh-year-old girl was, fortunately, apprehended by the police. Identified as 25-year-old Kaylee Andre, that driver was booked in the Henry County Jail. Andre now faces charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, failure to stop for a school bus loading and unloading, and failure to exercise due care.
Apparently, Andre did not defrost or scrape the ice off of her windshield on the cold morning, leaving it frosted over. That apparently obstructed her view, at least partially, and might have led to the tragic accident. FOX 5, reporting on that aspect of the case, added, “One of Andre’s criminal charges seems to confirm this, as she has been charged with obstruction of driver’s view.”
Further, FOX 5 added that the neighbors were willing to speak with it but did not want to appear on camera to discuss the incident. According to those neighbors, the devastating accident hit the neighborhood quite hard.
11 Alive managed to identify the killed girl as 8-year-old Adalynn Pierce. It further reported that a friend of young Adalynn’s mother said that she was “the most caring child who raised money for kids with cancer and left snacks on the front porch for delivery drivers.” Further, that friend added that little Adalynn leaves behind three siblings.
Further, that friend added that, even more sadly, Adalynn’s mother and one of her three siblings saw the car strike her while she tried getting on the bus. Apparently, Adalynn typically does not take the bus, but had to that morning because her mother’s car had broken down and thus her mom could not drive her to school for the day.
Hopefully, the tragic tale will remind people of why traffic regulations and driving laws exist in the form they do, and help encourage people to take the extra minute to scrape ice off the windshield or let it defrost, or take other, similar safety precautions, rather than heading out with an obscured view and putting the lives of all those nearby at risk, as happened here.
