$7 Billion Sale Of NFL’s Washington Commanders To Close In “Next Six Months”

The group formerly known as the Washington Redskins, then the Washington Football Team, and now known as the Washington Commanders are facing daily speculation about whether ownership of the NFL franchise will change in the coming months.

Current owner Dan Snyder has been on the outs inside D.C. for years, due to a poor record on the field.

In recent years, Snyder’s off-field actions have drawn even more league-wide scrutiny and ire from fans of his own team.

Snyder is currently under investigation by Congress due to allegations of sexual misconduct and falsifying financial statements.

Dan Snyder, along with his wife Tanya, released a statement on November 2 regarding the current status of their ownership of the team.

Dan and Tanya Snyder and the Washington Commanders announced today that they have hired BofA (Bank of America) Securities to consider potential transactions.

The Snyders remain committed to the team, all of its employees and its countless fans to putting the best product on the field and continuing the work to set the gold standard for workplaces in the NFL.

Disgruntled fans of the organization have taken to Twitter to rejoice in the newfound optimism surrounding the team.

Even though the team lost on Sunday, fans are thrilled at the prospect of new ownership.

Tough to lose like that. But Dan Snyder is selling the #Commanders, and he per @JayGlazer is selling the entire team and by March. That is a win greater than anything that could have happened vs. the Vikings.

Now, speculation is swirling about who may step forward to buy the team, and many insiders are saying that a consortium including rapper Jay-z, Amazon owner Jeff Bezos, and actor Matthew McConaughey are primed to purchase the Commanders.

A source close to the deal spoke to the New York Post about McConaughey’s ties to the purchase.

Matthew has always been a huge fan and his ties with the team go way back. They support his foundation he’s good pals with Dan Snyder – he and [supermodel wife Camila Alves] were on Dan’s yacht over the Super Bowl last year.

Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer also gave his insight on this deal’s price and timeline on FOX.

It’s to sell the entire team. What I’m being told is, the asking price is going to go for about $7 billion. The other interesting part is the timeline. This is not going to be a long, drawn-out process. I’m told the hope is to have this done within the next six months and actually have it finalized by the NFL owners meeting next March.
