UPDATE: Here’s How Jeremy Renner is Doing Following the Sunday Snowplow Accident

Jeremy Renner, the actor best known as Hawkeye from Marvel’s Avengers, is said to be in “critical but stable” condition following a snowplow accident on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Renner gave a statement to Deadline following the injury, which was described as a weather-related accident, in which they said that Renner is in “critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow earlier today.”

Following a day of no substantial news about Renner’s condition, he woke from surgery to send a post on Instagram to fans to thank them for their support.

“Thank you all for your kind words. 🙏. Im too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all.”

The Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam gave his best guess as to what happened in an update on the investigation into the snowplow accident, which Yahoo News shared.

“Based on our investigation, Mr. Renner’s personal vehicle, which was being driven by a family member, had become stuck in the snow near his home. Mr. Renner went to retrieve his PistenBully [snowplow] or snowcat, an extremely large piece of snow removal equipment, weighing at least 14,330 pounds, in an effort to get his vehicle moving. After successfully towing his personal vehicle from its stuck location, Mr. Renner got out of his PistenBully to speak to a family member. At this point, it is observed that the PistenBully started to roll. In an effort to stop the rolling PistenBully, Mr. Renner attempts to get back into the driver’s seat of the PistenBully. Based on our investigation, it’s at this point that Mr. Renner is run over by the PistenBully. An eyewitness detailed seeing Mr. Renner get into the PistenBully and not seeing him again until the PistenBully came to a rest in a pile of snow in front of his driveway. At this point in the investigation, we do not believe Mr. Renner was impaired at all, and we believe this is a tragic accident.”

Countless fans have rallied around Renner as he recovers in the hospital, as his role in Marvel’s Avengers universe has embedded him as a cultural icon to many kids and young adults. Renner is not only known by the youngest generations, however, as he received Academy Award nominations for his roles in The Hurt Lockerand The Town in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

Among the stars who sent their regards to Renner via social media are a few of his castmates in the Marvel universe.
