14 Democrats Vote with Republicans to Rebuke Biden Over Immigration Policies

Fourteen Democrats in the House of Representatives joined their Republican colleagues in passing a resolution to condemn President Joe Biden’s immigration policies. The resolution was introduced by Texas Republican Rep. Monica De La Cruz. Rep. Cruz represents a border district in the state and so is quite concerned with the state of the border under Biden.

Posting about the resolution on X, Rep. De La Cruz said, “The current state of our nation’s border security is unsustainable. The policies put forth by the Biden administration have resulted in the worst border security crisis in our nation’s history, endangering our communities and straining our resources. This resolution underscores the urgent need for the Biden administration to take decisive action to address the crisis at our border. We urge the administration to immediately begin utilizing the authorities available to them to regain control of the situation and protect the interests of the American people.”

She added, in a second X post about it, “H. Res. 1065 outlines a series of concerns regarding the Biden administration’s approach to immigration, including the dismantling of effective border security measures, the mass release of illegal immigrants into American communities, and the refusal to utilize key authorities to address the crisis.”

The resolution itself provides a long list of problems with Biden’s immigration policy, such as “the Biden administration’s purposeful violation of the mandatory detention statutes of the Immigration and Nationality Act has resulted in the mass release of millions of illegal aliens into United States communities” and “current immigration law allows for inadmissible aliens to be expeditiously removed from the United States once encountered at the border unless they establish a credible fear of persecution.”

Another complaint in the passed resolution is that “the Biden administration has released millions of illegal aliens into the United States without even processing them for expedited removal to be screened for asylum eligibility.”

The end of the resolution affirms that, in order to reign in the “crisis at the border that it has created, the Biden Administration has the authority to— (A) end the catch-and-release policy; (B) reinstate the Migrant Protection Protocols; (C) enter into asylum cooperative agreements; (D) end abuses of parole authority; (E) detain inadmissible aliens; (F) use expedited removal authority; and (G) rein in taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal aliens.”

Rep. Tom Suozzi of New York, a Democrat, commented on why he backed the resolution and said, “To solve this problem, you need to have action by the United States Congress. And this group has come together to say, listen, we see this bipartisan bill in the Senate. It doesn’t do everything we want, but it will solve this problem. So, let’s do it. Let’s move forward.”

Rep. Brett Guthrie, a Kentucky conservative who voted for the resolution, said, “Today I voted for @RepMonicaDLC’s resolution condemning Biden’s horrific border policies. We recently found out that the Biden admin has secretly flown over 320k illegal immigrants into the US. This is unacceptable from an admin that openly allows murderers and criminals into our communities.“
